Georgia Osborn, Senior Research Analyst joined the panel at the 2023 UK Internet Governance Forum recently.

The UK-IGF is the national internet governance forum for the United Kingdom. The theme of this year’s IGF was “The Internet We Want: Empowering All People” and multiple topics from AI to Cybersecurity to Internet Fragmentation were discussed. Georgia spoke on the tensions between the current General Data Protection Regulations and the European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Act. There is a difficulty in balancing the protection of personal data and ensuring that AI systems are unbiased not discriminatory.

The UK-IGF always seeks to maximise the opportunities of the internet whilst mitigating the challenges that it presents within the current political and global climate.
