Fraud and Scams Symposium Highlights

By

At the end of March, the DNS Research Federation (DNSRF) hosted a Fraud and Scams Symposium at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in London. In proud partnership with the Global Anti Scam Alliance (GASA), the DNSRF led two compelling sessions at the Global Anti Scam Summit (GASS); Brands, Scams and Domains: How data will lead the fightback and The View from Across the Fraud Attack Chain.

The event featured a distinguished line up of speakers from leading organisations including Meta, National Crime Agency, Mastercard, CIFAS and more. Their insights contributed to dynamic panel discussions that captivated a full and engaged audience.

Ciaran Martin, the Former CEO of the National Cyber Security Centre opened with a keynote that examined the critical role of infrastructure and data sharing in the fight against online scams.

With speakers from organisations such as Europol, Match and the .dk Registry, the audience could easily relate to real-world case study examples. The impact of the upcoming EU data verification laws (NIS2) were also discussed, adding further depth to the agenda.

Emily Taylor, CEO of the DNSRF, moderated the second session about The View from Across the Fraud Attack Chain where representatives from Mastercard, Meta and CIFAS outlined their aims to stop scammers from reaching victims, entering the digital space and cashing out.

As fraud and scams continue to escalate globally, the Symposium served as a vital forum for collaboration among cybersecurity professionals, law enforcement and industry experts. The attendees gained exclusive insights into how data-driven solutions are shaping the fight against online fraud.

After a networking break, the event concluded with a presentation from the National Crime Agency, highlighting the role of the Government in supporting and advancing fraud prevention efforts.
